Glitter Queens Blog Hop – Shaker Cards

It’s the beginning of a brand new month which means it’s time for the Glitter Queens Blog Hop! This month it’s all about Shaker Cards!

Tea Together Shaker Card

I started with a card base of Thick Whisper White cardstock. I like to use this thick paper any time my base is white because it’s sturdier and with the extra weight of a shaker card, it’s a good choice. The next layer is a piece of Calypso Coral that was placed inside the Mosaic 3D embossing folder and run through a die-cutting machine.

To create the window, I used the Layering Squares Dies, one inside the other as indicated in the image below.  You’ll need a clear Window Sheet to keep all the sequins inside so I used a piece that measured 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″. To attach the Window Sheet, I added Multipurpose Liquid Glue all around the edges of the rectangle.  Then I added our Foam Adhesive Strips on each side of the rectangle.

Layering Squares Dies

Once I figured out where I wanted my Iridescent Sequins to go, I shook them out onto the card base – I wish I had added a little more than I did. Next, I peeled off the backing on the rectangle and attached the window to the card.

The sentiment was stamped in Calypso Coral ink using the stamp set Parcels & Petals and cut out with the Stitched Rectangles Dies.  The flowers were stamped in Memento Ink onto Whisper White cardstock using the stamp set, Tea Together. They were colored in using Stampin’ Blends:  Calypso Coral Dark and Light, Granny Apple Green Dark and Light and Pineapple Punch Light. The flowers were cut out using the Tea Time Dies.  I got these dies when they were a Sale-a-bration free gift.  I’m so glad they can now be purchased in the Annual Catalog!

The smaller flower was attached to the frame of the window using Snail and the larger one has Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back. A shaker card may look like it’s really hard to make but it isn’t! I hope you’ll give it a try!

Stampin’ Up! Mosaic Mood Designer Series Paper

Today’s card uses Mosaic Mood Speciality Designer Series Paper.  Wow, this paper is so pretty with raised designs and shiny accents!

I also used the stamp set Tasteful Textures. Don’t you just love the sentiment?

One of the coordinating colors in the Mosaic Mood Designer Series Paper is Terracotta Tile so I used cardstock in that color and ink, also in that color, for the sentiment.

The Terracotta Tile butterfly was created using the Butterfly Beauty Dies and a die-cutting machine.

Stampin’ Up! Stitched Lace Dies

Stitched Lace Dies

It’s very easy to make the beautiful lace background on my card today using the Stitched Lace Dies and a die-cutting machine.

Once the background was cut out, I used Multipurpose Glue to add dots of glue all around the back.  I’ll be honest, I was a little intimidated at first wondering how I would adhere it the cardstock but it worked out well.  Lots of little dots of glue equals a card front that isn’t going to fall off!

The base of the card is Blueberry Bushel, one of the 2018-2020 In Colors.  I used that color again for the sentiment and the piece the sentiment sits on, both of which were cut out using the Stitched Nested Labels Dies. Three Noble Peacock Rhinestones in Blueberry Bushel were the finishing touches!

Bonus Days Are Almost Over!!

Happy Monday!

I’m feeling nostalgic because today is the first day of school! For 22 years I was an elementary school teacher. I retired seven years ago and in some ways it feels like a lifetime ago that I had a classroom full of children and at other times, it feels like just yesterday. My life has completely changed since the day I left my classroom for the last time. Months after retiring, our first grandchild was born and now we have three! We moved 400 miles away from a home we lived in for 28 years so that we could see our grandkids regularly and so that they’d know who we are. Several years before retiring, I became a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator. I remember very clearly, drooling over the catalog and wishing I could craft all day long and be a full time demonstrator. My wish came true and I love it!  I can craft whenever I want (in between babysitting those precious grandchildren of mine).  Life is good!

So as today begins, I’m thinking of my school teacher friends and all the kids with their new lunchboxes and new school supplies as they get ready to start the school year. To anyone starting school today or in the next few weeks, have a wonderful first day and a school year full of fun and new memories!
